Appearance: Heartwood is bright, clear yellow and sapwood is white to yellowish and hard to distinguish from heartwood. It is light and soft and reasonably stiff and strong. The grain is generally straight with a fine, even texture.
Uses: Used for interior and exterior finish, furniture, cabinetry, turnery, carving, boat building (decks, rails, paneling), shingles, cladding, doors, and decorative veneer. Overseas it is also used in marine piling, posts, engineers’ patterns and for battery containers due to high acid resistance.
Tips: Alaskan Yellow Cedar works easily with hand or machine tools and takes a fine finish. It turns, carves, glues, screws and nails quite well.
